event | Lee Oskar Reception 1:30-3:30pm
Nov 24, 2013 - Nov 24, 2013
Lee Oskar, famously known as the harmonica manufacturer, player and a founding member of the jam band WAR, which achieved many Gold and Platinum hit recordings such as: "Low Rider", "Slipping Into Darkness", "Cisco Kid", and "Why Can't We Be Friends". Lee continues to perform these and many other songs with his original band members, now known as the Low Rider Band. He was also instrumental in creating WAR's many album covers.
Throughout the many years of exploring the dramatic coastlines of the Pacific Northwest and the solitary back roads of the Southeast, Lee draws upon the extensive visual catalogue of influences and experiences, as a prominent force in bold and large format imagery as characterized in his paintings.
Lee Oskar is constantly inspired by the natural beauty of all his many travels spanning from coast
to coast. Lee's recent acrylic on canvas series explores the relationships between strong contrasts and vivid colors with tonal backgrounds. His paintings capture an almost photographic quality of realism. The juxtaposition of these powerfully contrasting natural elements are both stunning and arresting, inviting a prolonged engagement with the viewer.
Over the decades, Lee has explored a wide range of imagery, styles and techniques. Some of Lee's early work, published in 1994 by Journey Editions, in a collection entitled "Musicians as Artists", reflects a highly detailed, black and white, pen and ink drawing style, imaginatively transforming realistically rendered elements into abstractly surreal, organic forms.
Whether composing music or creating his next visual composition, Lee's creative work is a reflection of his rich and full life experiences.
Lee will be at the gallery Novemer 24th from 1:30-3:30
